It was a great privilege to have the mayor of Swindon, Mrs. Ray Ballman to officially open the garden for us. There was a short memorial service, led by GWH Hospital Chaplain Steve Henderson and a couple of readings by members of the group.
The highlight of the day was the grand unveiling of our very own baby loss memorial statue commissioned by us, and providing everyone with a unique memorial for all our little ones.
Over one hundred people turned out to share this very special day and lay pebbles in the decorative gravel border in memory of their loved ones. If you were unable to make the day, you can still paint and lay a pebble.
The day ended with the most magnificent balloon release, such a lovely sight against the bright blue sky as all those pink, blue and yellow balloons soared off into the distance. To accompany this and throughout the day we were treated to some wonderful harp music by Christine Kinder.
We were then able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and along with tea, coffee and cake there was a sense of togetherness as we all remembered those we have sadly lost. There was a special memorial leaflet to take away, along with a candle to be lit that evening for the National Wave of Light that was being held all across the country.
It was such a beautiful day, the words written by the group at the entrance sum up our feelings completely:
It was built with love, affection, and tears in loving memory of all our little ones gone to soon. It is our hope that you will find as much peace and comfort within this garden as we have in its creation.
